This week we played Premier, the standard format for Star Wars Unlimited that allows you to play only the cards in the current rotation block. I chose Hera Syndulla as my leader, and I used a blue common base from A Lawless Time which allows me to ignore one aspect penalty once per game. At a first glance, Hera is my favourite leader from A Lawless Time, because she allows heroic cards to be played out of aspect, which allows me to theme my deck without worrying too much about aspects, and I love theming my decks when I can.

My deck is mostly constructed with Spectre cards. Not only is it themed, but cards like Ezra Bridger (LOF, 46) can give experience tokens to other Spectre units. Also Fire Across the Galaxy (LAW, 256) allows Spectres to repeat their when played abilities. The Spectres from this set span across all aspects. Hera lets them play together, and Sabine’s Masterpiece (JTL, 250) unlocks an ability for every aspect in play, allowing for powerful combos. I placed third out of seven players, so the deck didn’t do too bad, though I’m still missing multiples of some key cards for this deck.
Claiming Bounties for A Lawless Time – A Way to Win More Prizes
At our weekly play nights, our group does something that we call “bounties.” Each leader from the current set has a “bounty on their head,” and the first player to play a deck with that leader, claims their bounty. The prizes for claiming a bounty are extra weekly play prize packs from the current and previous sets. It encourages a play environment where players try out new decks with new leaders, rather than playing the most meta or powerful deck they can. It makes things more fun, we’re more creative with our deck building, and extra prizes never hurt anyone.

Sadly, the gorgeous new weekly play cards for A Lawless have still not arrived at our local game store, but they should be coming this week. So on Monday, I’ll be opening all the packs I missed on my TikTok channel @e_atinfoil. For now, we do have cards from Jump to Lightspeed, Legends of the Force, and Secrets of Power. Surprisingly, the spotlight decks for A Lawless Time have also not arrived at our store yet, but they should also be coming next week, and I will talk about them in next week’s article if I get them.
Prize Packs and Rares!
I came third place overall in the night, and though my deck wasn’t enough to come first place, it was still enough to win me two prize packs, and I think these ones were pretty good. I had a lot of fun playing with Hera this week, using all the different aspects and comboing Ezra Bridger (LAW, 35) and Sabine Wren (LAW, 78) with Sabine’s Masterpiece to get off all four of its on attack abilities at once, may have been my highlight. Check out some of my favourite commons and uncommons I got in my prize packs below.

I am also happy with the rares I opened. Fire Across the Galaxy, would have been nice to have before the night started, as it fits perfectly in my Hera deck. I had one in there already, but I wasn’t able to use it because it just didn’t come up enough. I also pulled Anakin Skywalker (LAW, 88), but I’m still not sure what to use him for yet. And finally, I am very excited for Rogue One (LAW, 119), because I may want to use it in a Jyn Erso deck, especially coupled with my big hit from these packs.

The Big Hit & Next Week’s Format
The big hit from my prize packs is a prestige Bodhi Rook (LAW, 104). Not only is this a prestige card, but it is a rare prestige card! This is also the second week in a row I pulled a prestige card from my prize packs. The prestige cards are some of my favourite cards in the set, so I hope I can continue this roll next week as well. As I said before, I love theming my decks, so I’m hoping to build a Rogue One themed deck with this card and my rare Rogue One card.

Next week on our weekly play schedule is Padawan. The Padawan is an Eternal format that only utilizes common cards. That means all the cards from any set are fair play, as long as they have that little brown C on the bottom right corner. It’ll be a challenge to build, but I’m excited to tackle it. I’m thinking I’ll use the Legends of the Force Ahsoka Tano leader and fill my deck with upgrade and grit cards for high health units. Find out how I do next week in my next weekly play article, and May the Force Be With You!
