Warning: Spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again: Season 2: Episode 1
Daredevil is back, and he’s not pulling any punches. Daredevil is one of my favourite Marvel characters, and the Daredevil TV show has been one of my favourite Marvel projects since season one back when the show was on Netflix, so having Charlie Cox returning as Matt Murdock in more major MCU projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, and now a revival of his own show, has me very excited for his future. Episode one is full of connections to the comics, the rest of the MCU, and setup of what’s to come this season.

Title: The Northern Star
Writer: Dario Scardapane
Director: Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson
Release Date: March 24th, 2026
Length: 54mins
Matt Murdock is in hiding, but Daredevil has not gone silent. Season two picks up where season one left off, with Daredevil and Karen Page taking the war against vigilantes to the Kingpin’s doorstep. Both Daredevil and Kingpin are recruiting new allies in the form of Jessica Jones and the mysterious Mr. Charles. The Anti-Vigilante Task Force is picking people off the streets, and Kirsten McDuffie is dealing with the aftermath without help from her missing partner Matt Murdock. On the opposite side Heather Glenn is helping Kingpin lockup vigilantes, all while dealing with the trauma Muse left her with.
Daredevil Pays Tribute to Another One of the MCU’s Strongest Projects
The first episode of Born Again’s second season has a strong opening that strongly reminds me of the opening to another one of the MCU greatest entries: Captain America: The Winter Soldier. By far my favourite MCU movie to date, The Winter Soldier has a very memorable opening scene following Steve Rogers launching a stealth mission to take back the S.H.I.E.L.D. mobile satellite launch platform called the Lemurian Star from Georges Batroc who has hijacked it in the middle of the ocean. The connections to Daredevil’s opening scene are far too hard not to draw.

Though on a bit of a smaller scale in Daredevil, both opening scenes take place on a vessel in the water, and both coincidently (or not) have a name ending in “star;” Lemurian Star vs. Northern Star. Both characters also have new, darker versions of their original suits. Captain America’s new suit is referred to as his stealth suit, and I could definitely see Daredevil switching his suit to black for a stealth advantage. Daredevil’s attack on the Northern Star is a heavy hitting action scene that shows he’s not out of the fight yet, and I absolutely love it.
Born Again Season Two is Full of Cameos, and it’s Only Episode One
When Daredevil put his army together to fight Kingpin at the end of season one, I was hoping to see more original Netflix Defenders like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. In this week’s episode, Matt tells Karen to “give her a call,” and later in the episode, Karen gets a text and tells Matt, “Jess just pulled the ship’s manifest.” They are obviously referring to Jessica Jones, and in a casual way too, like they’re already friends. Though we knew Jessica would be in this season, I’m happy to know she’s been in the fight for a while.

Jessica Jones is not the only exciting character mentioned in this episode. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the director of the CIA and the “manager” of the New Avengers, makes a call to State Attorney General Steverud to vouch for the mysterious Mr. Charles, who has been sent to clean up the Northern Star incident. Unlike the original Netflix series, Born Again can be much more connected to the larger MCU, and will include bigger players, so I’m excited to see who will show up next, and especially where else Daredevil will appear in the future of the MCU.
Muse is Back and Following His Comics Storyline
One of my favourite parts of Born Again season one was the villain Muse, the street artist who used his victim’s blood as paint. Disappointingly, he was killed off by doctor Heather Glenn, but those who follow the comics know Muse doesn’t stay dead. In Daredevil: Unleash Hell (2025) Muse inspired artist Morgan Whittier from Hell to follow in his footsteps. He appeared to her as a ghost as Morgan created art from bodies as the second Muse. The show seems to be a little more grounded than the comics, but I can see it’s heading in a similar direction.

Season two of Born Again brings Muse back from the dead, but in the form of a vision to Heather Glenn. Doctor Glenn has already gone down the path of working for the Kingpin, making her more of a villain than a hero. If Muse’s story in the show is anything like the comics, there’s a chance Heather follows the path of the man she killed. There is even a point made in the show about being possessed by evil spirits at times. The Swordsman answers no to the question, but Heather checks the box yes, but that may be for herself.
Bullseye is Back but This Time He’s Saving Daredevil’s Life
Bullseye and Daredevil are not on very good terms, and they never have been, but his actions in the season two premier suggest he may have switched sides. As Daredevil is losing a fight against the Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF), they are all suddenly killed by bullets through the window, followed by a knife with “you’re welcome” and Bullseye’s logo written on it. With the AVTF hunting all masked heroes and villains, Daredevil and Bullseye may have found themselves on the same side of Kingpin’s wrath. Though I don’t think Matt Murdock will ever forgive Bullseye for Foggy Nelson’s murder.

Especially after Bullseye’s attempted murder of Wilson Fisk in season one, Bullseye may now need help from Daredevil and his army as he’s on the run from the AVTF. Daredevil may be able to use Bullseye in his fight against the Kingpin, but I doubt Matt will ever allow that to happen. Overall, this was a really well done episode, with heavy action right from the start. Matt Murdock is fully Daredevil once again. I look forward to seeing the payoff for what was set up in episode one. I’ll be back next week for a review of episode two.
